"I’m so thankful for my time with Sarah. It was near the end of my career, and I think most coaches thought of me as a finished project, too late to change in any significant way but reliable enough. That wasn’t good enough for Sarah. The film we watched, the discussions we had and the attention to detail in my training, it all challenged me and brought my game to a different level. It was refreshing to have someone invest in me again and to demand more. That builds trust, and I can think of no better indicator that a coach is doing something right than when their player trusts them.”

“A short blurb does not do justice to the impact Sarah has had on my career. On the field, she is one of the most detail-oriented, process-driven, tactically savvy coaches I’ve had the pleasure of working with. Off the field, she is someone committed to building trust and relationships with players, an art that has so often been lost in the professional game. She is wholeheartedly committed to the well-being of the player and the team, and will quite literally do whatever it takes to ensure both have everything they need to be successful. While devoted to producing results, she is equally devoted to doing things the right way. She is authentic and a person of true integrity. She has single-handedly helped me through some of the most challenging moments of my career. I can’t say enough good about her.”

“Working alongside Sarah during my time with the Portland Thorns was an absolute privilege. From day one, she brought an energy, professionalism, and attention to detail that elevated everyone around her. I truly enjoyed the years we had together. She created an environment where players felt both supported and challenged, and that balance is not easy to achieve at the highest level. What always stood out to me was Sarah’s unique ability to connect with every player on the roster. She knew how to get the most out of veteran players, understanding what motivated us and how to push us in the right ways, while also building trust and confidence in younger players just entering the league. She invested her time fully, whether it was staying late after training for video review, getting on the field early to work on technical details, or giving individualized feedback that made a real difference. That level of commitment doesn’t go unnoticed, and it had a lasting impact on the team. Sarah was consistently prepared, no matter the situation. Whether it was a training session, a game plan, or stepping in to support players off the field, she approached everything with care and intention. Beyond her tactical knowledge and coaching ability, she is simply an outstanding person, genuine, hardworking, and deeply invested in the success of those around her. The city of Portland is incredibly fortunate to have her, both as a coach and a leader.”

From Others:
“Sarah is someone who has shown the ability to impact people and players at every stage of their career. From our time together at the youth ODP level, many years ago, to her mentorship role in my career in the past few years, she is not only a friend, but someone who inspires me to be better in all ways. She has proven herself to be one of the leading coaches in the country, not just through the success she has had in the NWSL, but also her relentless pursuit of her own growth and development as a coach. While her accomplishments speak for themselves, it is her care for the players as people and how she develops the human connection that truly separates her as a coach and mentor. It is through the connections she builds that she can push people to heights they didn’t feel possible, through her attention to detail and willingness to go above and beyond on and off the field. She truly is an inspiration in so many ways, and someone that elite performers at all levels will confidently say left a lasting impression.”

“Sarah is the perfect example of a selfless coach. She will do whatever is needed for the players and staff. Sarah has a skill that others lack in that she knows how to sit back, watch, and listen. Sarah was one of the reasons I enjoyed college soccer as much as I did. I could see and feel her passion for soccer through how she coached us during practice and games. She took time out of her day to meet, so she could deliberately help you improve individually on things you may have been unaware of. She is someone who gets fully invested in every task and puts the players’ needs above all. Throughout my time at UF, Sarah has been more than a coach; she has shown compassion and understanding. She works very hard, but most importantly, she continues to show her love and passion for the game. I can only imagine the impact Sarah will continue to have on players in the future.”

“Sarah is a rare find as a person and as a coach. Her willingness to assist every single player while growing her knowledge of the game is admirable, and I feel so lucky that I get to learn under her. She makes me want to step onto the field because I know she believes in my abilities. Sarah encourages us to learn from one another so we can be better as players while she excels as a coach. Her passion for the game is contagious, and her ability to create relationships so effortlessly off the field is something I noticed from day one, and it absolutely transfers over to the field. Sarah genuinely cares about each player, not only what they do on the field, but how she can better their lives off the field. She is always there for me, whether it's an individual training session or to meet for a coffee just to talk, not even about Florida soccer. These things are crucial to athletes, and Sarah exemplifies every single thing I want and need in a coach. Who she is and what she does makes me want to play for her and make her proud.”

“Sarah is more than a coach to me. Her example leads me to believe that with dedication and focus, I can achieve my goals, not only in my sport, but in my personal life as well. As an international student transferring from a community college to UF, it was difficult to adapt to the new competitive environment. She guided me throughout the process of adapting, and I could always lean on her if I needed support. She helped me learn how to handle the pressure of playing soccer and studying at the same time. She was always available if I needed extra work on the field, before or after training. Working with her was super fun and challenging. It was a pleasure to work with someone who was so passionate about bettering others and who was willing to listen as well. During matches, she would give me tips and tell me where and how I could exploit my opponents to get the best out of my game so I could help the team succeed. She was always positive and honest with me when I needed constructive criticism. She gave me support and motivation and made my college experience more special because I know she is someone I can still count on. She led me by example and taught me how to be organized, along with many other important aspects of life. Sarah has impacted my career and life in an outstanding way. I am extremely grateful for the relationship and respect we have cultivated, and for all her efforts to make me a better person. I know she is someone who will always love me and believe in me because she cares about the person and character of the players she coaches.”
